Outside of a high-rise office building with a porte-cochere and landscaping in Form and Fiber custom aluminum boxes

Constellation Place

Tenant improvement to bring an under-utilized porte-cochere into a new context.

Johnson Fain designed MGM Tower, now Constellation Place, for JMB Realty Corporation. With changing times, the porte-cochere entry needed a new purpose. Providing beautiful outdoor space has become a requisite feature of Class A leasing space.

The Office of James Burnett designed metal planters to break up the existing space dominated by enormous pillars. The effect was to both create structured outdoor space and soften the geometry of the original building entrance.

Early in the design process, Form and Fiber collaborated with the OJB to make sure the planter system looked as though it was a logical part of the building. Fruitful meetings made it possible to tailor metal planters for a perfect fit around the pillars.  Form and Fiber made sure that metal seams aligned with existing paver patterns. Electrical conduit, outlets, irrigation were routed through the planters.

Form and Fiber fabricated wood benches as an integral element of the system.
